Fine and rare James II period Walnut Marquetry London Longcase clock by John Moncreif a well regarded early maker working before 1688

The case is veneered in walnut with floral marquetry panels and has a glass 'lenticle' to the trunk door and barley-twist columns to the trunk

The high quality movement is 8 day duration and has five turned pillars - inside countwheel striking and sounds the hours on a bell

The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring - day of the month aperture above six o'clock and is signed "John Moncreif - London" along the bottom edge

An exemplary clock with lots of good early features in as near perfect condition as the passage of almost 320 years will allow

John Moncreiffe (Moncreif) took apprentice Amose Wynch 26/9/1688 who was later turned over to John Bellard of London.  He was working from before1688

Of note are the many features similar to the famous maker Daniel Quare of London (1648 - 1724)  Including the dial engraving.  They appear also to share the same case-maker.
