Thomas Stripling of Barwell Leicestershire
Height 80 inches
Circa 1740
Thomas Stripling was born at Barwell in Leicestershire on 2nd April 1707. There were two of his clocks in the Leicester Museums Collection that used to be in the Newarke House Museum and now sady in store! His dials are invariably engraved with pecking doves and a sun motif. He worked until c.1760 at least making mostly 30hr brass dial clocks.Thomas's workshop behind the Blacksmiths Arms at Barwell was demolished in 1950.
This example is wonderfully original and has just the best colour and patination - small size only 80 inches
